Saturday was a special day with a baptism for eight year old Deborah Rivera. We taught her at her mother's request.
The whole family are members, but some are still in the process of repenting of some things, so the father hasn't yet been ordained to the priesthood. An RM sister missionary who had taught a lot of Mexican families here in G.C. brought her family to Garden City to visit this week-end, so they asked her father to perform the baptism. Sister Staib is on the right and her father, Brother Staib on the left just before the Baptism of Deborah Rivera who is in the center with Sister and Elder Howlett behind her.
Here's a view of a Kansas Original, or maybe it's a Detroit Original exported to Kansas. We were really surprised when we saw it first. Later we decided to take a picture when we saw it again, and it was only a couple of days before we did.
During the week we had occasion to drive to Dodge City. We saw this sign encouraging tourists to visit this historic town on the Sante Fe Trail that became famous for its cowboys, marshals and gunfighters.

We also saw this sign below. They have quite a famous rodeo tradition in town and they have a rodeo every summer that lasts several days. We've heard that they also stage a gunfight or two each day. We're not particularly interested in witnessing something like that, so we don't expect that we'll go.
We did get to see the Family History Center in Dodge City, but it wasn't open. It's the only one in this area, but it opens by appointment only.

If we are going to ride off into the sunset, this is the one we want to see. We are back on Mary street in Garden City, and a sliver of the LDS church building is just barely visible on the right side.
We like Garden City and we expect to call it home for our whole mission.
