Here in Garden City we have many wonderful people that we work with and teach. It is especially exciting when we can see them feeling the spirit of the Lord working in their lives. Also there are many that help the missionaries feel needed by getting them involved in service projects or they are always feeding us missionaries some food.
Cristina Aguilar and her granddaughter, Jasmine are pictured here in the kitchen of the church just after feeding us missionaries some dinner following General Conference broadcast in the Garden City ward building.
One of the sweet sisters who love the missionaries is a grandmother named Cristina Aguilar. She is visiting from Mexico with her daughter here and loves to meet with and feed the missionaries. During the General Conference week-end in October she brought dinner to the church Saturday and Sunday for the missionaries to have something to eat. It was so kind of her.
Pictured at right from the left is Elder Howlett, Elder Barnes and Elder Tiwari helping a recent convert pave a walkway in his backyard with used brick.
Later, a service project was done by some missionaries helping a new member put used bricks down in his back yard to make a sidewalk to the gate through the dirt that turns into mud in his backyard during rain. Gill Asebedo is so happy to have the missionaries help him with his busy projects. Elder Barnes who is from Utah and Elder Tiwari who is from Antigua in the Caribbean are a great set of Spanish speaking missionaries serving here in Garden City. They are helping Elder Howlett lay down the brick. Gill's relative told him he should paint it yellow so he can call it the "yellow brick road".
At left is a picture of Royal Taylor's kitchen. Seen standing from left is her granddaughter Lindy, Elder Howlett and Sister Taylor. Seated is Elder Tauteoli, Elder May and in the background her grandson Gabriel.
Another very compassionate sister who loves feeding the missionaries is Royal Taylor. She has all the 5 sets of missionaries over to her home every Sunday evening where we enjoy dinner with the family. Because there are nine adult children in her family, her husband, her grandchildren and so many missionaries, we eat in sifts. Sister Taylor also works at the local YMCA as the director of the week- day childcare class and the Primary president at church, so she is a very busy lady. She is quite a woman with a terrific husband and family.
Gabriela Ramirez's family gathered together for her father's birthday celebration. Gabby is in the back row, second from the right.
Visiting Gabriela Ramirez’s home is always a treat. Gabby is another sister who loves to feed the missionaries. She has adult children who live with her or near her and many grandchildren come over often. Sometimes her parents and extended family come too, as in the time we were invited to her father’s birthday party. It was so special to see all that choice family gathering together for that celebration. Gabby is a sweet member of our Church, who is a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) and a caregiver for one of our recent converts, Delia Ramos. Since Gabby is a member of the church, she can bring Delia to church too.
Pictured here at left is Sister Howlett, Gill and Michelle Asebedo, and Elder Howlett. Gill is quite a bit older than his bride, but they are very happy. They were married in his friend's church.
One special experience that we witnessed during November 2011 was the wedding of two of our great friends who are recent converts. Gill Asebedo and Michelle Ivey were married by a friend of his family. In fact, this reverend had also married Gill’s parents many years ago, so it was cherished experience to have their family friend perform the marriage of these two special people who met in our church.

Our bishop was out of town for Thanksgiving and this friend of Gill’s was available, so it was done in his church. We were happy to be able to witness the marriage, because it was a surprise since they got the marriage license and decided to be married that same evening. All the missionaries were able to attend and some of the members of the ward made it there also. Congratulations and we hope they will have a very happy life.
