Demolitian T-Rex
The last two or three months a demolition company has been tearing down an old office complex next door to our apartment buildings so they could make room for a new apartment complex. It has been quite an operation, and has been interesting to watch the progress of the take down.
Any of you who have seen or helped with the demolition of a building know how much work it is to do that. The company here were using huge hydraulic machines similar to steam shovels, but with an air hammer head on the end of the extended arm to punch holes through the walls and floors of the buildings. Later they changed the head to a huge jaw mechanism that made it look like a Tyranisaurus Rex dinosaur that eats buildings.
Of course lots of other things were going on--a concrete crusher, bulldozers, dirt movers, etc. but it was so real to see that huge T Rex eat those buildings. They were trying to separate the metal re-enforcing bars from the concrete so they could recycle the metal and crush the concrete. Recycling seems to have been the driving force behind the operation, and they have created huge piles of graded sand, rock, crushed concrete, dirt, etc. along with the many huge containers of various metals.
It has been quite a process to watch but they are almost done now. They have been starting at 7 am each morning- an hour and a half before sunup- and going until about an hour and a half after dark at nearly 7 pm.(19:00) with the pounding of the hammer or the grating of the crusher. The T Rex was almost constantly in action tearing the building apart. I´m so glad they are not real dinosaurs. It will be nice to see something else going up - after the New Year we are sure.
